A Legend Has Passed... By Sophie-Isabella

Sadly one of the greatest All Black players  of all time has passed on, at the age of 40. John Mayhew confirmed that Jonah Lomu tragically died this morning around 8 or 9   o'clock.

Jonah battled kidney disorder since the end of  1995. He was then diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome . During 2004 he had a kidney implant.

It is probably a struggle for Jonah's family . Jonah's family would be  devastated from the news of the All Blacks legend's death. His family are asking for privacy as this is a hard time for them . He was not only a good rugby player but he is a good person.

Room 11's thoughts are with Jonah's family and we hope they get through this rough time.

Hand Arrows Right Animation ClipartJoseph ParkerHand Arrows Left Animation Clipart

Joseph Parker is my role model. He is a boxer and he fights in the 103 kgs division. He has won a lot of  boxing belts and he has knocked out heaps of fighters. Joseph Parker is a humble boxer when he knocks people out.

I want  Joseph Parker to visit my room so he can teach us kids some boxing moves and how not to give up.

The King Of Stingers-By Quros

It all started off small when I took my pet Scorpion for a walk. Just one day can change everything.

I took my Scorpion for a walk to the Zoo to see the other Scorpions. As I went to the Scorpion section the alarm went off... OOOOOHHHH! OOOOOHHHH!
There was a man on the speaker saying “Alert! Alert! The Scorpions have cracked the glass window with their stingers. Oh and they have a new species called Alphatraz. It’s a species that can turn you into a Scorpion. Get out of here now people!” I was terrified.

The doors closed on me, I was trapped in the SCORPION SECTION. All the Scorpions chased me around and around until I got stung by 40 of them. I was screaming for help as loud as I could. 4 days later, BOOM! I was a Scorpion. A Scorpion that chased other people and was dangerous. I was enjoying being bad. It was a lot of fun chasing these people around.

I thought this would never end but 24 hours later I turned back into a boy again. BOOOOOOOOO!

Extreme Bus-By Mele.

Hi last week room 11 had a surprise from me and my family because my dad works for a rich man from the city. I asked Dave who is my dad’s boss if I could have a bus for my class. After school that day I heard a horn from outside.

I went outside and saw Dave and the bus. He said to me… “Are we going to go or are you going to just stand there?”
I took a photo of it at the workshop before he upgraded it with furniture and put a giant flatsceen in as well.  Here it is… It's gold. There were other buses there but I chose the gold coloured paintjob.
Screenshot 2015-06-08 at 10.10.25 AM.png

I couldn’t do anything because he told me to stay back as it was dangerous in the workshop. I can't wait for this bus to be finished.

Hydropower-By Tyla.

Hydroelectricity has been a part of New Zealand for nearly 100 years!

In New Zealand our hydropower sources are powered by dams over rivers. There are sometimes protests against making more dams in NZ because we don’t want to ruin our natural environment. Hydroelectricity supplied around 20% of the world's  electricity in 2006.

The more water there is, the faster a turbine spins and it can make more electricity. Hydropower is the largest source of energy used in New Zealand.

Helping Each Other-By Maranatha

Some people help others and some don’t.

People are poor and they always go out in places and beg for any spare change.. (I always give them money because I’m a good helper). Some people need help but most people seem just too busy to help them. A friend of mine helps everyone. She helps me too. She picks me or other people up when they fall and she always keeps them happy and doesn’t make them feel left out. That’s called helping. Do you like people who help you or not?
Screenshot 2015-06-05 at 10.09.00 AM.png
Some people don’t care and sometimes, after you’ve helped them and given them advice on things, they change and start to hate you and that’s sad. People help because they care and they want your life to be happy. Helping people isn’t a big deal.

Be happy, don’t let others bring you down. You can’t help everyone but you can help someone in need.

The Scooter Race-By Popi

Yesterday a funny thing happened while Sebastian and I were having a race on scooters but suddenly….. Stay tuned to see what happens next.

The race was on and I was in the lead but then… he passed me and wanted to win. I was taking my time once I got on to the slippery concrete. Sebastian was going fast while I was going slow and suddenly he turned and slipped over. He started laughing and then I started to laugh but he got back up and we were still racing.

When he fell I almost ran him over, but luckily I didn’t. At the end of the slippery path I did one big drift but I didn’t fall over. I was almost at the finish line but I lost because Sebastian cheated. He went through this hole in our gate I had made and he won.

Room 12 Helps Us Out!

This afternoon 4 students from Room 12 (Miria, Don, Elizabeth and Damien) popped into our room to show us how to embed videos, improve the layout of our presentations and use animations and backgrounds in our inquiry learning.
They explained how to transfer our hydropower information from google docs to google slides. The session was awesome with these expert learners from Room 12 sharing their knowledge and teaching us new tips and tricks.

The Door-By Akanesi

As I was walking down the hallway a door suddenly appeared out of nowhere. It was very colourful and I turned on the light so I could see it properly. I wasn’t scared so I opened it. A young lady came out of the door and said "Hello Akanesi, welcome to the world of second chances. They call it the world of second chances because it is a place for people who made a big mistake and they can change it."
Now I haven't made any mistakes in my past because I am only young. But I walked in anyway. I saw a lot of people in there and it was really scary. She told me the reason I’m in there is because in the future I will make the biggest mistake of  of my life and I will regret it everyday. I was there to change my future and stop the mistake from happening.

The Annoying Weatherbomb. - By Sebastian.

I was supposed to go to Dunkirk Reserve on Saturday to watch my friends play rugby. That never happened because a weatherbomb hit.
images (15).jpg
Saturday morning was boring because all the ultra-heavy rain, strong winds and cold temperature cancelled all outdoor sports. There was nothing to do so I went to the Internet Cafe and played games.

The weatherbomb ruined my day.

Living Green-By Elaine

By throwing your waste in the right bin, you can help the landfills from overfilling with rubbish that could actually go in the recycling or compost. Little things like tossing plastic water bottles in the recycling bin and then throwing food scraps in the compost can help the environment and creatures a lot.
Screenshot 2015-05-20 at 1.36.23 PM.png
Act now, because before you know it the Earth will just be a giant rubbish tip. The future is in our hands. Do you want clean or dirty hands?

Recycle for worms-By Tyla

You normally just think about throwing out your food scraps when you are finished eating. But why don’t you recycle it? You might have a pet that can eat any sort of food you don’t want.  And if you don't there are other creatures who will eat your leftovers.

The best thing to do if you don’t have any pets is to dig a hole and put all the scraps in. Then cover the scraps with dirt. Why would  you do this? Well you see all your scraps will either be eaten by worms or rot into the ground to make the soil fertile for plants.

Worms make the soil awesome for plants. That’s why you need to recycle your waste.

Mechanical Man-By Quros

I would like to learn how to be a mechanic.

I would like to be a mechanic when I’m a bit older so I can make new inventions. Being a mechanic will be very cool because if my car or motorbike breaks down I can get my own tools and fix it. There’re all kinds of mechanics.
But, I want to be an Auto-mechanic. I shall make family's lifestyle eco-friendly by inventing cars that run on water instead of petrol. I shall be the only one in the world that can fix these cars and I will be rich.

Piano Man-By Samuel

I have always wanted to play the piano because all of my family play music.

Playing the piano could be the best thing to happen to me. I always see my
cousin playing the piano and I always say to myself that I want to do that too.The piano might look easy but I know it is hard to learn.
If I have the chance to learn it, I will take it and play beautiful music at home.

I Want To Learn The Guitar-By Tiperia

What I’ve always wanted to do was to play a guitar.

As soon as I see people playing a guitar I just want to take it out of their hands and play it. The only problem is that I just don’t know how to play. I have always wanted to play a  guitar in front of people.

Most days after school I ask my parents if they could actually sign me up for guitar lessons. If I get permission to sign up for them I would go every single day. Guitars are really popular in music videos so I want to do that. I would look cool in a music video playing a guitar.

A Day In The Life Of A Soldier At Gallipoli-By Harris

6.00am BOOM! Yay, it's another day in the trenches. Just woke up and found my best mate had died in that explosion
7.00am Just finished my breakfast. Bully beef soup.
10:00am. Got ready to attack the Turks. Feeling depressed.
10.30am Back in our trench. I just watched 15 mates of mine die in our failed attack.
12.00pm I  just received my lunch. Hardtack and jam... Yum.
1.pm “The Turks are attacking. Gear up!" An officer yelled.
1.15pm I'm lying on the ground wondering why I can't stand up.
2.15pm I wake up in this tent full of injured soldiers and nurses.
2.20pm Just finished listening to the nurse telling me what happened. I was lucky. I had no injuries and was just shocked by a grenade.
3.00pm Went back up to the trenches.
4.00pm Dinner time, Bully beef and hard tack. Delicious.
7.00pm Getting dark. Watching flares go up in the air. Can’t wait for the next day.

How to stay afloat-By Pallas

Everyone likes swimming right? Well If you are a beginner and you don't know how to swim I have all the tips and advice to keep you safe.

First of all this isn't just advice for the swimming pools. Its basically for anywhere you go that involves water. The Beach, swimming pool, lakes, rivers…...Anywhere.

So lets start. First of all lay on your back and keep your tummy and head up high. Then once you get the hang of that start kicking at your own pace. If you get that right you can add some style. Start doing some backward arm strokes in the water .I guess now you're a pro so keep practicing. I'd rather float than drown and so should you.

Our Museum Trip- By Tyla

At the end of last term the year 7’s and 8’s went to the Auckland War Museum. We were split into groups of 5 with an adult supervisor.

original.jpgI remember seeing nurses uniforms and a picture of a  group of nurses who helped injured soldiers during the war. There was a very old first aid kit. When we were walking around we saw some badges and different kinds of guns by the library. We also saw a Spitfire that was used in WW2.
spitfire-clonedresized.jpg
vickers.jpgIt was sad reading the names of the soldiers who died during the wars.

The last thing we looked at was Gallipoli in Minecraft. I really enjoyed it because it felt like you were really there and only you can see what’s happening right in front of you. The 3D goggles were cool.
